Team Leader - Environmental Health

An exciting career opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health professional to lead our Environmental Health team and continue to keep public health of our communities front of mind in Council's decision making.

The Tasman district is experiencing high levels of growth and development, and this provides a number of both challenges and opportunities in successfully managing potential risks associated with public and environmental health. Based in Richmond, this is a highly visible senior role within Council's Regulatory Section, and is primarily responsible for the following:

  • Leading our professional Environmental Health team in ensuring Council's public health and associated functions are implemented effectively and acting as the point of contact for escalations
  • Providing specialist Environmental Health advice to other areas of Council, and providing reports to them when required
  • Policy and By-law development and review
  • Working with the Regulatory Manager in developing and implementing systems to respond to public health emergencies

Our preferred applicant will have strong working knowledge of the relevant statutes and the ability to apply food and alcohol legislation in a wider context, including within local authority bylaws and policies. In addition, intuitive interpersonal skills will stand you in good stead when managing noise and nuisance complaints and investigations. Other valuable attributes will be your commitment to delivering quality customer service and the ability to provide effective leadership to support your team.

A degree in environmental health science or similar along with senior level experience in an environmental or public health setting is essential.   • Starting base salary for this role is $100- $110k + 7% benefits, depending on skills and experience. Salary ranges go beyond this as the individual develops in the role. Relocation assistance can also be discussed with the preferred applicant. Utilise the 7% benefits for additional superannuation, additional paid time off, or a cash allowance. We also offer flexible working options, such as working from home and 9 day fortnights.
