Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Are you a self-motivated energetic person with excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn? We are seeking an Engineering Cadet with all these attributes to assist in the operational management and maintenance of the District's roading network.

You will be committed to undertaking training towards a NZ Diploma of Civil Engineering; and to utilising the skills and knowledge you acquire to help deliver effective roading outcomes for our community. This is a fixed term position for a period of six years to support and enable you to successfully complete the Diploma and attain practical experience in the role.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a close-knit team;
  • A willingness to learn and commitment to achieving required study outcomes;
  • Competent skills with computers and in particular use of Microsoft Word and Excel and general database management;
  • Outstanding planning and time management skills to get the job done right, documents recorded accurately and a commitment to health and safety processes

Ko wai koe | About you

You'll be joining a team that envisions being better together, so you'll be a team player that upholds the values that our staff developed together (see below). You'll have NCEA Level 2, with a minimum of 48 credits in four subjects, including at least 12 credits in mathematics.

You'll have strong relationship building skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.

This position is classified as safety and health sensitive so the successful applicant will be requried to undergo and pass a pre employment health and drug test.
