Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

This is a critical role within our team, responsible for ensuring all interments, cremations and disinterments are delivered professionally, respectfully and in accordance with specifications and legislative requirements. The role also involves a range of duties, including horticultural maintenance, to ensure a high standard of presentation within our cemeteries and providing assistance to the wider Open Spaces team. The operation of excavators and other smaller horticultural machinery e.g. line trimmers, is a requirement. Adherence to safety protocols are paramount in this role to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees, public, visitors and contractors.

There is a requirement to work overtime and weekends, as required. Candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical, drug & alchol test and Ministry of Justice vetting.

We'll provide the support - you'll bring your enthusiasm, great attitude, awesome teamwork and motivation. You will also have:

  • A compassionate and caring attitude
  • An understanding of tikanga Māori
  • A recognised qualification in the funeral industry and a qualification in Amenity Horticulture is desirable.
  • A good level of physical fitness for this manual work which does involve heavy lifting,
  • Experience in a similar position,
  • Pride and satisfaction in well-presented outdoor spaces
  • Experience and an ability to operate small machinery associated with outdoor work.
  • ​Self-motivated and the ability to work autonomously
  • A full clean driver's licence with Wheels, Tracks and Rollers endorsement
  • A dedication to continuous improvement, both in our environment and workplace
